I am grateful to be part of a group of artists opening a shop in Ballinspittle, West cork;
Led by the inspiring energy of local textile artist Rebecca Powell, a vibrant community of creatives is launching something special in the West Cork hub of Ballinspittle. With community at its core, Rebecca’s vision centers on empowering local artists to showcase their unique creations through the strength of collaboration. This vision comes to life with the opening of the West Cork Collective gift shop and gallery on Sunday, March 2nd.
Situated right at the beginning of the Wild Atlantic Way, this retail space is ideally located for both locals and tourists searching for thoughtful gift ideas, home decor, and fashionable accessories. The Collective is more than just a retail space; it serves as a multifunctional hub available for classes, tutorials, support groups, and various community activities aimed at enhancing the local area.
The creators involved in this project bring an array of talents, from artful weaving and exquisite oil and watercolor paintings to elegant sterling silver jewelry, natural locally-made creams and soaps, quirky pebble art, and one-of-a-kind hats and scarves. The gallery will showcase a rich diversity of handmade items, including hand-made paper, mixed media art, seaglass creations, canvas paintings, and framed artworks, alongside prints and greeting cards.
In our age of technological reliance and excessive screen time, a deep sense of belonging and real human connection is more essential than ever. Experience one of the many classes offered or run one yourself at the West Cork Collective. As Rebecca says, “We can do things alone, however, it just feels so much better doing it together.”
